It seems more and more that the older styles of Detroit techno and other forms of old school electronic beats will be saved from falling out of the trend… just not necessarily on the North American continent. Europe has been making waves with the likes of The Hacker, Brodinski, and Maelstrom, as just a few of the producers/DJs in the forefront of sticking to tradition, while still progressively advancing the genre to fit the styles of the 2010s.
This time around, the musically gifted Maelstrom has dropped “Bricktown District,” which will be released as a free download via Brodinski’s upcoming mixtape, The Purple Ride, coming out July 8th. The track itself is a trip over to the dark side with a dance twist, guaranteed to keep people raving through the night. Bromance and Zone Records , homebase for Brodinski and Maelstrom respectively, have both actively sought to go to new places with their darker musical styles, and “Bricktown District” only highlights what should be the longevity of two great record labels.
Maelstrom has been incredibly busy, he recently just released his Resistance EP, as well as having various shows throughout Europe. He’s also been working with Louisahhh!!! for her album, while pushing out tracks of his own, such as this brilliant track.
