While Artifakts may seem somewhat new to the scene, he builds off of established groundwork that has been set in stone by artists ranging from Pretty Lights to J Dilla. Even though his beats may not contain the bells and whistles that many expect from their music in the here and now, there is a lot to be said about possessing the ability to craft balanced soul-injected simplistic beats that stand apart in their own right.
For his newest release Garrett Meyer (Artifakts) navigates the hip hop edge of his abilities, layering a sputtering piano melody over a simplistic beat. In order to spice things up from a side dish to a full entrée Meyer’s additions of sampled horns, vocals and an exploring electronic forefront combine to add depth, resulting in a well-rounded track.
