This is your Daily 2% – Chilled and Ready to Serve. We will try to bring you one “chill” track every day. This is for when you get home and you are trying to unwind. You reach for that glass of wine or that unlit Black & Mild or maybe you reach for something more herbal. This track is for those times. We are just your milkmen and I’m here to make a delivery. Chill…
For today’s dose of dairy, we turn to 16-year-old lyrical savant, Bishop Nehru, a New York product crafted in the image of the city’s storied hip-hop history: smooth sample chops and gritty, complex rhyme schemes. As the Empire State slowly returns to form with acts like A$AP Rocky, Action Bronson, Flatbush Zombies, and Joey Bada$$, Nehru seems poised to be the next to make his mark on the city. With his March release, Nehruvia, he proved to be a savage over everything from Dilla to Premo. Now, his appropriately titled new mixtape, Strictly Flowz, which is due out tomorrow (July 16th), brings us something to soothe the soul. “Mobb Dizzle,” a pseudo-tribute to the legendary rap duo, is vintage and has nearly crippling head-bobbing potential. Seriously, there should be some type of warning label attached to this cut: do not break your neck while vibing out. We are not responsible for injuries sustained listening to great music! Over calm, borderline hypnotizing production, Bishop Nehru spits viciously against the grain, carving out space for his bars in all the pockets. It’s a mesmerizing combination that requires several repeat listens. Check out the track below, sit back and just…chill.
