When listening to the first two minutes of Vandana Jain’s new song “Mask” listeners can be often reminded of the dark tones that many have come to appreciate from Nine Inch Nails’ industrial electronics. This is not to say that Jane does not differentiate from alike artists, as she stands is her ability to contort a wide range of styles and effects into a weighted balloon that never drifts too far in any direction. “Mask” proves that Jain is itching to express her creativity in new ways and given that the Brooklyn artist focuses her time on both graphic design and music her possibilities seem endless.
Throughout “Mask” pulsating melodies and a heavy low-end focused beat create a dark backbone that gives Jain’s voice an aggressive stage to embellish. Throughout Jain’s ability to use her vocals in a way that highlights the instrumentation and the overall balance between the drone-like tones and bowing synthetic chimes work together to create a stand-out.
Expect many more experimental nodes when Vandana Jain releases her debut album, ANTI VENUS, on October 1st.
