The hip-hop collective Local-Mu12, are looking to make a name for themselves on the independent rap scene. They are dropping their debut album “Labor Day” appropriately on September 3rd. The only features on the album belong to New York lyricists Skyzoo, Torae, and Chi-town’s GLC (Kanye West’s old pal). Local-Mu12 makes music for the gritty rap music lover.
Their single “Champions” features Stryfe & Broadway Barrett along with one of Brooklyn’s finest emcees Skyzoo. The combination makes for a musical onslaught of hip-hop at its core. Skyzoo hits the track hard on the second verse with his signature Brooklyn-style rap and bravado. Sky compliments Stryfe & Broadway Barrett for a potent one, two, three punch.
Real McKoy is responsible for the triumphant beat. “Champions” begins with a slow string sample, which makes for an exciting transition when a procession of horns enter over hip-hop drums. “Champions” sounds like a victory march for hip-hop music fans who miss the east coast style that is lacking on mainstream radio today. Hopefully, artists like Skyzoo and Local-Mu12 can continue to carry the torch for quality rap music to the promised land.
