Seafloor

While I’ve never actually been to Brooklyn, my image of the place is a cultural hotspot for the urbanites, the messy haired hipsters, and ex-pats looking to escape from home for a little while. It’s safe to say that with an image like this of the place floating around, the music hailing from there ranges from the typical to the outright strange.

Seafloor happens to be a producer from Brooklyn but with an appeal that goes beyond just the East Coast, as he has joined Hyperboloid Records, a Russian label, to release his EP Fissure. Showcasing his musical range, he bends every genre from the juke style to drum n’ bass.

Earmilk is proud to premiere one of tracks on Fissure, titled “pukau.” The song sweeps the listener within the first few seconds like a wave and then dramatically throws us around for the next five minutes, swaying between a moment of calm and turmoil. The body becomes unsure of what’s to happen next, and the beauty of the track is that while we may never meet Seafloor in person, he still is able to masterfully play with emotions like the puppet master a true musician should be. Seafloor’s are traditionally thought to be calm, it’s the bottom of a dark unknown land, however, much of it is actually turbulent, and “pukau,” embodies this same idea. It starts emotional and dark, but immediately takes on a journey through the unknown.

Fissure will be out via Hyperboloid Records on September 23.
