UK music appears to be going from strength to strength these past few years. Both Rita Ora and K Koke have signed deals with Roc Nation, Jessie J has had Detroit emcee Big Sean appear on one of her singles and Dizzee Rascal has featured alongside Houston legend Bun B on a number of tracks. One of the hottest UK acts at the moment, Krept & Konan have released their highly anticipated mixtape Young Kingz, which sees them fuse together hip hop, grime, trap and even some R&B to create a diverse project that’ll push them further into the spotlight.
The dynamic rap duo previously caught the attention of people worldwide when their cover of Jay Z and Kanye West’s “Otis”, went viral and achieved over half a million views before it got taken down due to copyright issues. The cover showed the world that when it came to lyrics and wordplay, Krept & Konan are a force to be reckoned with and their clever delivery and wordplay continues on Young Kingz. The project has guest features from some of the UK’s biggest urban emcee’s including Giggs, Tinie Tempah and Chip as well as some up and coming vocalists like Yana Toma. When it comes to the instrumentals on Young Kingz, there is a real mixture of vibes. From the more upbeat trap-like beats like “M.D.M.A”, to the more mellow, serious tones of “My Story”, there is a track that’ll suit everyones tastes. With two videos already released (see above and below this paragraph), and with the project recently appearing in the top twenty of the UK album charts, it’s clear to see that Krept & Konan are seeing their status grow each week. Young Kingz is available to buy from iTunes now!
