As if they were never fully out of the game, one of the original electronic male to female vocal duos are back when a style that they helped shape has since become overdone. While the duo of Sarah Barthel and Josh Carter (Phantogram) have provided their followers with a few original songs and two Big Boi collaborations since the release of their debut Eyelid Movies back in 2009, it has been two years since there has been any new flows irradiating from their direction.

Fans of the band no longer have anything to gripe about as Phantogram just released  “Black Out Days” marking the introduction to their second full-length studio album due out later this year. Throughout “Black Out Days” Carter’s all encompassing electronic compositions are back and Sarah, as always, doesn’t miss a beat with her sharp vocal talent. An infectious chorus of wailing chants and effect-filled pulsing synths pave the way to the finish line where all of the songs layers and components come together to create an empowering climax before falling out to the emotional finale “Black out days, I don’t recognize you anymore”.

 

If “Black Out Days” is any indication of what to expect on the Saratoga Springs natives upcoming Barsuk/Republic album then we are in for quite the treat.
