Artist Remixed is back to bring you the milky manipulations of your favourite singles. From the increase in bedroom producers there has been an even bigger increase in remixes. Artists are now making entire EP’s and LP’s devoted purely to remixes, something unheard of just a decade ago. One search on Soundcloud for an original piece of work leaves you strolling through pages of unfinished productions and poorly structured remixes. Yet, out of all the mashups, edits, screw ups, and improvements there is still gold to be found. Artist Remixed is your guide to bring you straight to the cream. Why search through pages and pages when EARMILK can sift through the dross for you? This weekly feature will showcase old and new artists of all genres, yet never an original piece. Artist Remixed was created to show you bedroom producers of all genres to feed your hunger. This week Artist Remixed features Toro Y Moi. Enjoy.

DANCE REMIXES

Between dance and disco, summer and spring, fresh and vibrant, you’ll start your day right with these uplifting tracks that make you want to move. Starting this week off we have the energetic remix by Vindata, it takes the original and turns it completely into something you can move to. Fare Soldi’s remix has just the right amount energy to keep you from drifting into a trance. It tweaks Toro Y Moi’s vocals with just enough flare that it creates a perfect blend of rhythm and singing. To finish off the first set of tracks, we have Gossip Culture’s jazzy remix of “Still Sound”. It blends the world of disco and pop music in a milky collaboration of sound.

DREAMSCAPE REMIXES

Perfectly balanced and relaxing, these remixes should take you somewhere you’re not, uplifting you above your own element they hopefully will transport you in a daze. Psychic Soundsystem’s rework is gentle and dreamlike, it stretches the vocals and slowly memorizes the listener. Secondly is Teen Daze’s remix of “Still Sound”, it is soft and melodic with a heavier beat. Teen Daze are no new names to dreamscape music, yet this remix highlights a fall side of their usual summer sound.

CHILLOUT REMIXES

Lying on the beach, driving through the streets, still wishing it was July, these treats are just what you need to give you another rush of that summer mindset. Shlohmo’s remix was arguably my favourite remix as it absolutely slaughters the original, with an eerie beat and signature warped vocals, Shlohmo reworks “Fax Shadow” just perfectly.  Secondly is MANIK’s remix of “All Alone” which features a silky beat, it weaves through Toro Y Moi’s vocals with ease. Third, we have Voodoo Bear’s relaxed remix of “Still Sound”. When Toro Y Moi’s vocals come in, you’re hit with a pleasant wave of tranquility. Finally we have Robot Science’s remix of “Talamak”, which completely shifts the original with a brilliant and catchy melody. Just slightly tweaking the vocals, you’ll find yourself entranced before you even realize what you’ve been hit with.

BEAT ORIENTATED REMIXES

Whether hip-hop rooted, bass boosted, milky fresh or purely something sinister, these remixes will keep you grooving and surely give you a reason to keep coming back. Freddie Joachim’s remix starts us off with a slow and smooth beat. It’s hypnotic yet never fails to keep you moving. Matic’s remix is aggressively good, it keeps a thudding beat continuously while teasing us with tastes of Toro Y Moi. Come half way, I’m not sold on the change of pace, yes despite the middle bump it continues to play out pleasantly.

EXPERIMENTAL REMIXES

If it’s instrumental, ambient, experimental, or just a strange sounding tune you’ll most likely find it here, straight filtered for the interesting and artists trying new sounds. Rocko Goddammit takes “Rose Quartz” and makes it a glitchy web of shattered vocal clips and a structured beat. Binary Bit’s remix of “So Many Details” is a mix of a memorizing synth and a fragmented beat. It’s poppy and uplifting yet still reminds you of a darker sided FlyLo.

DEEP HOUSE REMIXES

From the drinks that keep pouring tell 5 am, to the girls that keep dancing tell 6 am and the nights that keep going tell 7 am; these eerie tracks will guide you through it all. Shelby Grey’s remix of “Say That” is soft and eerie, Toro Y Moi’s vocals create the perfect blend with the smooth melody.

MASHUPS

Whether it’s two songs or a list of hits, these tracks combine artist’s signature sounds together to make a mix of noise. There is only one mashup this week and it comes from The Hood Internet, they actually had three mashups with Toro Y Moi but this one outshines the other two tremendously. As if a it was a long lost puzzle piece, these two tracks go together like glue. Sit back, relax and roll a juicy.

OVERALL FAVOURITE REMIX

Last but not least is Amtrac’s electrifying remix of “Still Sound”, it uses Toro Y Moi vocals perfectly, keeping the original relatively intact yet adds a chilling beat. Amtrac enhances the track with a groovy melody and a beat that keeps you moving where ever you are. What really stuck out the most for me about this remix though is how he keeps it dark and electronic based yet never looses the magic of Toro Y Moi’s voice; the one thing we’ve all fallen in love over with the original artist.
