The Beast Coast movement has been gathering momentum in 2013. In a year when we’ve seen the likes of Joey Bada$$, Action Bronson and Flatbush Zombies release dope projects, it’s time for another New York emcee to take the spotlight, step up CJ Fly. The Brooklyn native, who is part of the Pro Era collective, has been gearing up to the release of The Way Eye See It for some months now, dropping a couple of singles including “Sadderdaze” and “Still The Motto”, the past couple of weeks building up to last Friday’s release.
The Way Eye See It is an eighteen track mixtape that is filled to the brim with the energy, charisma and clever wordplay that has seen CJ Fly become one of the most prominent members of the Era. This project is packed with dope production and great features that don’t intrude on the talent that CJ possesses. On the production side of The Way Eye See It, CJ has picked up beats from the likes of Lee Bannon, Statik Selektah and fellow Pro Era member Chuck Strangers. CJ continues the Era’s work of bringing that boom bap rap back with this project, giving his modern lyrical content that 90’s rap twist. Alongside the dope production, there are a few really stand out guest verses on this mixtape, including features from TDE’s Ab-SoulĀ and Pro Era kingpin Joey Bada$$.
You can download The Way Eye See It for free from livemixtapes, and you can catch CJ at a city near you on the Smokers Club Tour, which he’s appearing on alongside the rest of Pro Era, Ab-Soul, Black Dave, The Underachievers, Hefna Gwap and more.
