GEMS is smoke in a nightclub. They’re an untended drink on an empty bar. They’re black and white and italicized. The Washington DC natives have been dropping singles for almost a year with “Medusa” as their most recent. Thick bass synths coil behind Lindsay Pitt’s crystalline vocals, carrying us into the rattling percussion of the chorus. Psychedelic guitars washed and faded in reverb add to the innumerable tails whipping through the track. The addition of Clifford John Usher’s deeper and punctuated vocals keep us inside the atmosphere. Let it turn you to stone.
