Having completed past projects such as Skeetwood Mac and The Skeetles, New York artist The Melker Project shows no sign of slowing down by releasing his latest mashup EP, Ballin’ Oates. Highlighting classic hits from Hall & Oates ranging from “Maneater”, “Out of Touch”, “Rich Girl” and others, Scott Melker once again demonstrates his innate ability to seamlessly merge the “new” with the “old”. Melker incorporates hip-hop samples from the likes of Wu-Tang Clan, T.I., Kanye West, and other artists, which in turn emphasize Melker’s reworked Hall & Oates samples. I was able to talk to Melker for a bit, and he was proud to point out that he had done “remixes of all of the Hall & Oates tracks. Meaning I [Scott] replayed almost all of the instruments, created ALL of the beats etc… and then used [the] vocals.” Quite frankly, the nuances from track to track stand out in a superior manner, which allows Melker to create the festive party atmosphere that I’ve come to expect. My personal favorite would be “Wu-Tang’s Maneater”, but there are 4 other mashups that more than hold their own as well. Take a listen below, and grab the free download for your party pleasure.
