There are other paths to wander, believe it or not, that aren’t so much reliant on the high-octane pace and adrenaline. In fact, there is music that rely on the polar opposite you may say. Hammock is a post-rock and ambient duo (Marc Byrd and Andrew Thompson) from Nashville, Tennessee. They have already rounded up tens of thousands of fans and are still going strong. They’re known for their calming yet powerful style. Strings are ever present in their soundscapes, along with an emotional piano. Fans of post-rock and ambient are rejoicing, as the duo have recently given us a sneak peek of what’s to come in their highly anticipated album Oblivion Hymns, set to drop November 26.
“I Could Hear The Water At The Edge Of All Things” is the first official single off the album. Even though the title of the song is a mouthful to say, it will leave you speechless as you lay down to jog between your thoughts. In the beginning, we hear that signature, haunting Hammock piano, which really sets off the environment that you are soon transported to via airwaves. Strings dominate a majority of the track, but what is a Hammock song without a good dosage of ambiance to lather the rest of the elements? It just wouldn’t be them without it. Alas, a capella-esque choir, which in this case resembles something like a Gregorian Chant, concludes the waning minutes of the tune.
