Fresh off the heels of Flume‘s revamped debut tape sporting new features from the likes of Ghostface Killah, Alexander Spit, and Killer Mike, Harley Streten hastily announced a collaborative EP with Chet Faker this past Monday. The three-song project, Lockjaw, is an extension of their previous success with “Left Alone,” a standout from Flume’s self-titled album. Less than a week away from the release in the states via Future Classic, we’re treated to a second preview of the EP with “What About Us.”
Unlike the centric vocals of previously released “Drop The Game,” Flume & Chet Faker’s latest creation slowly progresses over UK-style bass and sprawling echoes. Swelling synths engulf the listener and Faker’s soulful prose is revealed, a moment in which the two meet eye to eye both emotionally and creatively; with a wholesome sax outro to boot, “What About Us” is another testament to the duo’s proliferating success.
Two-thirds of Lockjaw have been unleashed, and it is exactly what we come to expect from this dynamic pairing. Stream the track below and don’t miss out on the EP, out now in Australia, November 25 in the UK, and November 26 in the US.
