Bonobo’s music seems to create its own soundscape; it lies somewhere between downtempo and experimental. He is one artist that is always pushing boundaries by experimenting with new artists. After seeing his live performance and how he interacts with other musicians in his live band I grew a new appreciation for this talented producer. By constantly pushing the barriers of labelled music and mixing unique styles of sound, he keeps the music industry alive in a positive way by continually finding new artists to work with.
Today EARMILK features his most recent release on Ninja Tune Records. The track is a remix by Maya Jane Coles, who is based out of UK, London. Often influenced by dub and house sound, she continues to release remixes and tracks left and righttfi, with one full length album in the past five years. Her remix of “First Fires” from Bonobo’s recent album, The North Borders leaves the vocals of Grey Reverend relatively intact yet layers a harmonizing, eerie beat over the original melody. Using distorted synths and a dub structure, Maya turns this downtempo tune into a deep house dream. The final edited loops of Grey Reverends vocals give the remix a powerful ending.
