Alex Young may have only just turned 17, but the young talent has the production chops of a seasoned producer. Being heralded by VIBE Magazine as one of the top 25 DJs under 25, Alex spends his spare time hanging out with some of electronic music’s biggest superstars like Diplo, Dillon Francis, Flosstradamus, 12th Planet, RL Grime, Baauer. But at the end of the day he is still a high school student, with an impeccable ability to defy genres and create some seriously cool electronic music with just the right amount of hip-hop and house traces. Alex remarks, “Many people can’t believe how old I am, however, that’s not what’s important. I want to make music that leaves a lasting impression and is remembered for years to come.”
While we may know Alex from his trap styling’s on his single “Boomerang” or his hardstyle anthem antics on “Mastermind”, today we have a whole new side to the Washington DC resident’s musical CV. Taking on a rock group this time, Young tackles The Neighbourhood’s lead single “Sweater Weather” and delivers an entirely new take on it for us to enjoy. Jesse Rutherford‘s hypnotic vocals float effortlessly over a beautiful melody that cascades into an array of interesting sounds, while simultaneously taking us on a melodic journey from start to finish. New twists and turns await around each corner of Young’s production. Yet, his ultimate goal here was a simple one, he just “wrote these melodies for all the pretty girls around the world.”
