Well, this is a first: just today, an intern for the OWSLA team dropped his debut EP Challenger. Durante seems to have found himself in good company, and for good reason. I don’t know much about this guy, but what I can say is that this EP packs a punch. Taking us on a sonic ride through many different genres with an 80s house theme, the entire album should be played from start to finish. He even says, “I was really trying not to fall into any one genre, because at the end of the day music is just that: music.”
His first track, “Take A Look”, kicks off the album properly with a more relaxed feel, which is the prefect segue into “Radio”, which picks up the pace as an all out electro-house banger. Next up the self titled “Challenger” which is an outright 80’s bash followed by another funky beat “Crash”. “Challenger,” with a nice detuned lead, super funky vibe and that ever-so-lovely 80s drum, is one you want to play with an extra loud subwoofer and, as Durante likes to put it, “if you don’t have one, find a friend that does and play it on their system.” The same goes for the entire album, so turn it up and put on your best flashback gear and just dance!
