For Washington, DC’s Drop Electric, middle volumes are a barren land. The band’s new single “Little Sister” breaks from bare bones to full-on crescendos without once pausing to consider the in-between. Tinny electric piano rattles against Kristina Reznikov’s powerful voice until a surge of electric guitar launches them both well above ground.
Like fellow experimental ensemble The Cinematic Orchestra, Drop Electric doesn’t loosen its grip until it’s broken your heart in at least four places. The video for “Little Sister” illuminates some of the song’s lyrical ambiguities in a short that’s hard to watch and even harder to turn away from.
“Little Sister” arrives as the first single off Drop Electric’s forthcoming LP, Every Day Is Your Last.
