Elephant‘s “Skyscraper” (released via Memphis Industries back in March) evokes a nostalgic feel with melancholy, acoustic undertones. London based Bayou (Hari Ashurst) picked up on this emotionally-driven track, and turned it into something of electronic worth. “Skyscraper” now hovers around a dreampop aesthetic with added and accentuated off-beats. The use of newly incorporated synth, downtempo spatiality and trap influenced splurges reminds us of what Dream Koala or Fyfe might gravitate towards.
Bayou invites us to tilt our head back and melt into the darkened electronica. The sound is full, embarking on adventurous dips and builds, keeping us guessing up until the very last seconds. This remix of “Skyscraper” sustains its original nocturnal nature, proving it as a song to wind down listening to. Bayou doesn’t hesitate to hide Elephant’s French hip hop and 80s disco influence, while also implementing his dreamy, lo-fi stylistic qualities to make it his own.
