In a world saturated with formulaic builds and drops, San Fran based producer Worthy strays from the pack and is every bit deserving of his name. Worthy boasts an unconventional tech house sound that is cutting-edge and infectious. Pulling from breakbeat styles mixed with future house and techno it is no wonder why many acclaimed DJ’s are hailing him as “worthy.” Out now on Beatport is his latest release, a 2 song EP entitled Flashin.
First on the decks is “Flashin”, a deep house track perfect for any late night occasion. Thumping bass slaps as you can practically feel the sweat dripping down your cheek. One simple vocal track “flashin” resonates as quickly as it dissipates in the dark abyss the synths establish. I can’t help but imagine this track blaring over the speakers at Vogue Knights in NYC as crews battle it out to this beat. Breakbeat wails compliment growling 808’s in a fabulous fashion making this song perfect for the pivotal moment in any set.
Up next is a more uplifting and urban beat titled “Trinidad”. Paying homage to the tropical sounds of Trinidad, Worthy uses steel drum samples along side quick vocal cuts. If there was ever any question of Worthy’s versatility and ingenuity in blending styles “Trinidad” is a dead-ringer for his craft. Heavy funky-bass lines make your body want to wiggle and writhe like the large inflatable men outside a car dealership. A medley of dub, bass music and classic house give this track just the pizzazz needed to solidify it’s spot in your ear buds and CDJs across the globe.
Flashin was released on Worthy’s label Anabatic Records and is available for purchase on Beatport. Flashin has already received great praise from artists such as Justin Jay, Zed’s Dead, Kry Wolf and Yolanda Be Cool. As Tom Haverford says, “treat yourself” to some wonky wobbles and funky bass lines and snag yourself a copy of this sultry EP.
